In 2008, the legacy organizations of NBTS granted an incredible $4.5 million to brain tumor researchers across North America. As NBTS evaluates our past programs and our future possibilities, our leadership – board, staff, and expert advisors – is attuned to both effectiveness and efficiency.
NBTS invests wisely and strategically in promising research through programs that fit logically in the wider funding landscape, including:
- Basic and translational research, with open RFP process
- Includes epidemiology and psychosocial studies
- Collaborative funding with private and public partners
- Identified projects that are beyond the basic/translational scope
- Sponsorship of professional meetings for scientists and clinicians
NBTS is also actively pursuing greater involvement in certain areas or phases of research. We hope to formalize at least one of these new initiatives before the end of 2009:
- Clinical trials and related studies
- Pediatric research (beyond the basic/translational program)
- Long-term studies of patients with low-grade tumors
- Directed funding in order to answer a specific question posed by NBTS or to achieve an NBTS-identified result
